I decided to try out Criminal Girls. The gist of the story is these girls committed terrible crimes and it is your job to bring out of Hell. Each girl represents one of the deadly sins.
I only played a few hours in. But here are my impressions.
Gameplay is surprisingly easy. You move around each floor to get to the next. Pull switch, trigger events, get treasures, etc. Unfortunately you move quite slow on the map.
Battles are still-image old-school RPG style. The form of attack is random for each of the girls. So you can get like a tag-team attack command or use a skill in another. So you have no control of commands like if you want to use a skill like steal. It does seems to choose based on the situation, for example, a boss charged up for a special attack and then I always got the Guard command from Ran to command everyone to guard. So I assume to get an all-out 4 attack must be when certain conditions are met.
You also only command once per turn. So you pretty much just choose the best command. Like you can get 3 normal attacks and one double attack. There is pretty much no reason not to use the single attack (unless the double attack is with the weak "magician" type girls). You are able to use items once per turn (no penality - doesn't count as a command) which is basically your healing/support.
There is no money in the game. It just OP points which is used for buying items and punishing. There is no armor or weapons in the game. So that pretty means, leveling up is your main source of stat increases.
Basically you use up OP to "punish" the girls to get skills. 4 for each form of punishment (spanking, etc..). The skill they learn can be like offensive, defensive, passive or a field skill. While the punishment image is "ecchi", that's pretty much as adult it goes.
Punishment is also simple. You have 4 tries. You just have to do it correctly. Like it can be like press the button at certain time, rapidly press the button, etc. Each successful "hit" will reveal more of the image.
As the story progresses, I assume you learn how the girls got here and their background. I can only understand a bit of it (luckily there is a lot of voice dialog as I can't read Japanese well).
All in all, it fairly easy game so far. The ecchi-ness is pretty much the draw factor (yet it is not much in the game). BTW you might get looks if you play this on a bus ride
NIS America and imageepoch (the one who made this) recently signed a deal to publish their games in West. But I highly doubt they will be able to bring this game. The ecchi images (which is a very minor part of the game) will not get through ESRB in my opinion. If it does come here, the images might be heavily censored or out right replaced or removed. I remember one company tried to release Ikki Tousen (which had ripping clothes) but the game would get a M rating so they just decided to canned it instead.
