EXE reporting for Duty

Postby Exe7 » January 23rd, 2009, 12:04 am

Hey there. I'm new here (obviously) and I just happened to find this site.

I was looking around the net at some pictures of those little anime figures. Lots of figurine talk going on, and I want in.
I don't own any figures yet, and I'd like to. Though, I noticed a lot of them are super pricey, but I guess it's what has to be paid to get some good figures.
It's just a toy, but I'd sure like to have one or two, so I'll be using this site as my main info source. :D Plus, I've been hearing a lot about bootlegs from China and stuff. Now, now, are they really that bad? I'm sure the quality between authentic and bootleg could be questionable, but as I see it, bootlegs could be the cheaper alt. I'd prefer the authentic, but really, the wallet does the talking. :D
...I'll probably be asking a lot of questions about figures, so, you figure pros out there, I'd love to meet you.

So, yeah, I'll be sticking around. See you guys around. :D
Oh yeah, about me:
I love videogames, playing the piano and eating. Obviously I like anime, :D, but I'm just here to share my small fandom.

Welcome.

Generally, bootlegs suck. Many of the bootleg figurines are poorly painted and have poor design in places here and there. From far away they may look fine but close-up they don't look good. I would much rather pay a bit more and be happy than pay less and be dissatisfied.

Even if a bootleg had the same quality as an original, it doesn't change the fact that it's a bootleg. A lot of us take pride in getting the original thing and supporting the makers.

For me, getting a fake leaves a crappy aftertaste in my mind.

Welcome! Feel free and browse the collections of fellow forumers and see what everyone collects. It'll give you ideas on which figures to pick up and how to store/display them.

Bootlegs tend to leave a bitter taste in your mouth. Cheaper? Yes, but for a good reason. It's kind of like buying shoes from Payless: they may only cost $20, but they look like crap and your stuck with it until it breaks and you decide to throw it away. I apologize in advance to everyone that buys from Payless :ase2: :ase: .

Great to see that there are people passionate about their figure collecting. I don't have a single figure yet. :D The only things I have been collecting for a long while are Gundam Model Kits. They're so fun to build. :D

When I actually do get to figure collecting, I'll probably have a mix of bootlegs and authentics. I do know how to differentiate between the two thanks to:
http://www.nutsforanimefigures.com/inde ... &Itemid=39
and Zerotype Forums. but....
As long as the face of the figure is acceptable (whether bootleg or not), I'll probably buy the figure. LOL. I'm so lax. :) Really, the most important thing to most figure collectors (I'd think) is the face of the figure. I'm sure a lot of figure collectors out there would probably agree. But, I guess a lot of other factors are involved too, like company, body position of figure, type of figure (pvc, resin, whatever else is out there.), whether the figure is good looking or not (If a figure was ugly, why buy it? :D)

Sorry, I'm not trying to offend anyone that collects legit figures by saying it' s ok to buy bootlegs. It's just that I'm so lax with the stuff I get, I could probably careless if I end up buying a bootleg or not, so long as it looks pretty :D. (Oh, and as long as the face of the figure is pretty too! That's probably all I care about really.) The only things that leave a bad aftertaste is.... medicine! :D

I kinda wish I was ignorant of the concept of bootlegs, because then, it really wouldn't matter to me, because I wouldn't know. :D

I'll be looking around the forums for your recommendations on figures. So, I'll see you around. pce.

For the record, I lawled.

The guys here are fairly good at distinguishing bootlegs. I was but a sapling unknowing of bootlegs and now I am an oak tree that knows better. <~~~~~ It seriously sounded good in my head.

Aside from how utterly lame I just sounded, I don't condone bootlegs because it doesn't support the makers which is a key factor for me. Even if it is pricey, if it's justifiable pricey then I am fine and it's my way of appreciating the character, their franchise and the manufacturer. Besides, bootlegs can be potentially dangerous as there is probably little to no quality control or safe work environments. Can anyone say, "Lead"? Bootlegs tend to be terrible or there is just aspect of it that is inferior. It really is an expensive hobby, so being picky is a really good thing.

By the way, gundam model building is awesome. I really wish that I could get into it, but I feel that I don't want to get into something new.

Videogames ftw!

Bootlegs are bad m'kay?! :x :P

Hi!

Yeah everyone has different tastes and preferences. A good collection often ends up having some sort of theme or logic to it. It often starts randomly and matures with age and the collectors' personality. I think the forum member Jkno's collection is one example of a theme (or themes). You could check out his or any of the other forum members collections here for ideas! :)

Sorry for my little rant! Hope you have a good time here and find this place useful.

Welcome! :D
