Yeah! New computer!

Postby Firestorm ZERO » August 3rd, 2009, 2:23 am

Decided to replace my "old" rig with a totally brand new one :D I could of waited especially since Intel was going to release their budget line but I decided to plunge in.

Specs...
Gigabyte EX58-UD5 (never buying an ASUS again as my prev. motherboard disappointed me a lot)
Intel Core i7 920
XFX 1GB HD4870 (decided to just go with 4870 because I plan to upgraded to the 5xxx series eventually. Would of went with a 4770 if they were in-stock :/)
12GB Corsair DDR3-1600

Now my applications flies like no tomorrow :D

Except read speeds :/ Hopefully SSD hard drives go down quick. RAID is noisy, power hungry and expensive as well.

But.... the all time question.... will it play Crysis?
I will never know since I don't play that game

Well, we just saw a set of precipitous price drops across the board caused by the release of the second-generation Intel X25 MLC (34-nanometer) drives; the Intel itself dropped from its launch price of $595 down to an MSRP of $225 for 80GB, and some other drives are selling for as low as ~$2.15/GB. I'm not sure that they're going to go down significantly again for a little while.

For me, once the ~250GB range SSD goes for around $500-600 CDN I will be definitely buying. I remember buying a 250GB HD years ago for this price.

Because of work travel I buy laptops. Waiting for more commercial quad cores to be released in store fronts. Best Buy has one low end HP model right now. Hopefully by Christmas they will have more available.

I don't know about SSD's, I have heard it said that they have a shorter life span than the regular disk hard drives.
