Go see it in the 3D theaters. It is worth the extra money.

My wife even liked it, and she is a hard one to please for Sci-Fi movies.

The RealD 3D was excellent, nice Sci-Fi love story, plenty of action.

You'll beat yourself up if you don't see it in a 3D screen.

Don't know about IMAX 3D since I didn't see that version, but the normal 3D screen was great.

They even had a 3D trailer for the new 3D Shrek movie.

The technology for this movie was great, it bodes well for Battle Angel Alita. James Cameron now
has no technology reason for not moving ahead with Alita, if he so chooses.

I saw Avatar on Imax. I thought it was quite good. The movie went by very quickly and the 3D was better than I expected. I think I would have probably liked the film just as much without the 3D however.

i saw the teaser preview last year at IMAX 3D. it's very disorienting and can easily give people dizziness. i'm probably going to skip IMAX 3D for this release and try the regular 3D presentation.

Also please don't post any spoilers without the appropriate tag..i haven't seen the movie yet! :)

I know some people have an issue with Imax but personally I really like it. :) I always go for Imax if the option is there.

i love IMAX. It's where I saw the Dark Knight. IMAX 3D is a different beast though. during the teaser i felt as though i was going to get a headache and it was hard to focus in on the action - you get a sense of being overwhelmed by all the graphic elements coming out at you. well in my view anyway, it varies from person to person.

Understood. Well I know people who have seen it both at the Imax and not at the Imax and neither one was apparently any better than the other. :) One bad experience with 3D would certainly make me reluctant to try again that's for sure.

I honestly don't understand why people are raving about Avatar. 3D effects aside the story was incredibly cliché and predictable.

Inglourious Basterds was a much better film in my opinion and, although very historically inaccurate, left a very memorable impression.

Everyone's taste is different.

I loved Avatar. The special effects and action were excellent. The litnus test for me, was that my butt didn't get sore or antsy
and my wife didn't fall asleep.

I love Sci-FI and Fantasy movies, so I am pre-disposed to these types of movies.

Sad to hear the Avatar 2 is coming before Battle Angel Alita.

That's fine there is nothing wrong with either genre. It's just that Avatar is neither a good Sci-fi fim nor good Fantasy film.

Avatar is a cash cow for Cameron. Of course he is going to prioritise his film about the blue people on a planet called Pandora.

Never realized this but someone brought up that this film is a sci-fi version of Pocahontus which in the end, actually very true from hindsight. I, myself not very clear with that story but from what I've seen, yeah.

I say that this is a sci-fi movie, took place in space, have mechs, alien people and funky technology. You can also say that the environment and species found on Pandora is more the "fantasy" side being that the big bird mimicked a Dragon.
Problem is that Avatar is Matrix in a sense except that you only die if your physical body(not the Navi?) gets killed. I like how my brother mentioned how this movie was like "The Last Samurai" except Nature wins the battle for them lol hax!

It's much like Starship Troopers, the novel was far off from the movie that it was but I dunno why, I love it in a sense where it's so bad that it's great!

Mr. D
I had a similar reaction to the 3D in Coraline. From what I read, the reaction is somewhat common and will be consistent with all 3D movies.

Syn 13
The movie has also been referred to as Dances with Smurfs.

I'm a little hesitant to see the movie; most likely I will rent it first before deciding.
