2011 New Year's Resolutions

Postby Firestorm ZERO » December 29th, 2010, 1:12 am

The year is about to end to a close and a brand new coming up. So what do you have planned for 2011?

  • I plan to really learn Japanese :D I actually signed up for a course to basically force myself (or else it is money wasted) instead of self-learning. I got my Hirigana all memorized (prerequisite of the course) and almost all the Katakana. Luckily my VP at work knows Japanese so I have an extra source for pointers.
  • Saving up for a house. So my spending on hobbies is now cut drastically. So December, I splurged for the last time LOL.
  • My last year's resolution of finishing the site did not come true :( Due to work and my strive for "perfection", I will hopefully have it ready in a few months.

Let the cliches begin! :)

-Try and lose weight
-Pass the Win2K8 admin exam
-Take more digital photos. check that. start to take pictures. Anyone want model for me? :P

Good luck with the Japanese! I envy anyone who can grasp it.

I stopped buying art books this past year (and have limited manga to just 5 titles). I haven't dared to open Nat's blog to see the new goodies that are out. Sadly this means my run of Murata and YT may come to end :( (barring this week's $50M lottery).

がんばって下さい。 :)

As for me I have a few goals although they involve spending money rather than saving! Well, saving money TO spend. Yeah... :-?

I've never done a New Year's resolution, and I still will not, but I do have one goal set for myself for the near future. I need to finish my Bachelor's degree, so I'm saving money for that. Luckily, with little being released in the US as far as anime and manga, I am hoping it will not take too long to do the saving since I'm getting pretty burned out on the the job and coworkers I currently have. (Nothing like having to work with the man who went ape shit and started back stabbing my hubby and I when we chose to purchase a house.) I'm looking into UW Madison or Beloit College since I live much closer to them than any of the schools in Chicago.

F Zero-
The one suggestion I can make is make certain to have an extra amount saved for repairs and furnishings for the house when you buy it (error on the generous side.) And if it's available in Canada, insist on a home warranty for the first year you live in the house when you propose a contract. That was a very handy request our real estate agent added to our offer that saved us about $500USD.

Yup thanks for the tips Susano. I actually have enough down payment for a house already but decided to wait a year to save up for the additional (and any unexpected) costs, have more "emergency" cash and as well increase the down payment. Here in Canada the interest rates are going up (very slowly at usually 0.25%) so technically I should buy now but I rather play it safe.

That's a good one. What do you plan to resume study? :)

I'm planning on getting a Clinical Laboratory Sciences certification (Medical Technologist) along with a minor in Anthropology. There's not too much class wise that I need to do since the final year is spent in a hospital. The Anthropology is more just something I enjoy;, although it can be applied to the forensics end of things, I'm more likely to find work in a hospital where I live. I might go on to medical school later if I decide to be so inclined; I've been thinking about it for a while now. I just don't know if I want to dedicate that much time and money towards it.
