DLSite now accepting works outside Japan

Postby Firestorm ZERO » March 20th, 2007, 2:00 am

For those you don't know, DLSite offers legal online distribution of doujin works from doujinshi, cg, music and even games. Before it was Japan only but has expanded to the English user base.

What's good though is a lot of Japanese circles has joined DLSite. Certain circles were heavily reluctant to sell to foreigners (won't mention names ;)) but I am glad to see they now too have joined (whee!).

Now they are accepting works from OUTSIDE Japan, so now artists/circles around the world can distribute their artworks. Wondering though if they have to censor adult non-Japanese works due to Japan censor laws (or only allow outside Japan sales).

I still prefer "physical" content though. The way they distribute it I hate sometimes like for doujinshi they use PDFs sometimes :/ (I prefer images so I can use my image viewer). Some of DLSite's content are also DRM protected (certain circles want this) but some aren't. Last I heard the DRM uses ActiveX (so you have to use IE), no MAC/Linux version and has validation check so format/upgrade computer and you can lose access to your content :/

Too bad the RIAA doesn't take a lesson from these online stores though. I can tell online distribution is thriving.

For me, I never have time to work on my art work :( Always wanted to do a manga or even an anime with my friends but never got the time ~_~

Sorry to hear that :(
I don't have much to do these days, but I've become incredibly lazy with my art. My last complete CG was done around Feb 06.
No inspiration I guess :mm:

I was going to release a CD collection with my friends a long time ago, but they all dropped out of the project.
I now have almost 13 illustrations that I've never placed online, so those, and some newly added stuff will be added to dlsite.

As for the censorship law; Yes, even foreign submissions must mosaic genitals, and such.
They state specifically what will need to be censored in their terms.
All of the stuff I'm going to submit, however is light cheesecake stuff (boobs and panties), so I won't have to worry about dealing with mosaics.

How much do you want to bet that someone will scan and upload a bunch of foreign comics & collect money for them?

Do you have a couple of examples of your work, that we can see?
Tokyo Central to Shirow One, we have you at T-minus 4 mins and counting.
Shirow One to Tokyo Central we have a problem.
Tokyo Central to Shirow One, that is affirmative, have Shirow One on hold count.
Please stand by.
